COTTAGE UPDATE.....IT'S CALLED "GUT JOB"

It's been snowing again the last 2 days at the cottage and work is going slow..........but we are still in the "gutting" process.  We had a 22 ft. long dumpster dropped and it is half full.  A few pics for your curiosity!

As you can see, amongst this mess......I MUST try a few paint colors!  Of course, I had to add a little curtain for a visual!  Silly me.
This room was the first addition to the home back in the 70's.  NO WOOD floor under the carpet...too bad.
This rooms ceiling is completely coming down.  And the cabinet doesn't belong there....it came from the kitchen and will be moved to the basement for storage.

                                this............

                               Now this............
The sink and dishwasher will be under the NEW larger opening........the stove will be straight ahead........and the fridge will be on the right side.  OPEN SHELVING will be on the left, and on the stove wall.

Similar to this................this pic is at dark at the Storybook Cottage.  I had a daytime pic but couldn't get it to upload.  My kitchen will be layed out like this but I believe my area is a tad bigger...not much though!  My cabinets will be white.

This area will be an extension of the kitchen.  I have a lot of ideas for this space........

This is a picture of the other bathroom I hadn't shown you........Hubby gutted it this week.  It is a decent size room.  We removed the dinosaur corner tub, double vanity and toilet.  We plan to install a walk-in shower, sink and a closet for a stackable washer/dryer.

And here is a sneak pic of the upstairs attic bedroom (one side)......lots of knotty pine!  That is a walk-in closet ahead

The other side of the room.....(sorry, don't know what is on the camera lens).  Those old white ceiling tiles are no longer there.......those were removed last week!  New drywall will add a better look!  The wood cornice/valance above the window has an original built-in light.  It's hidden and sweet!  Hubby said he didn't mind if I wanted to white wash or paint the upstairs room......yeah!

Well, there you have it on the latest update!  There are a few more things I could have shown but I will save those for the next time!  Blessings and stay warm~~~Roxie

  9. Wow, this is some project but what a great looking cottage. I always thought that doing something like this would be fun. Of course after helping my husband put in laminate flooring a few years ago I also know that it would be quite back breaking :)
I thought I had commented on your post below the other day but I must have gotten distracted which is so likely to happen with me :) Looks like a very fun neighborhood

  10. I am loving that you are keeping us updated on the progress. The larger opening in the kitchen sure makes a big difference and I bet it lets in more light too.

  23. Hi Roxie! I have been on a blog-break, and look at you go! I missed a lot of your demo, you have been so busy! Stinks about the no-wood-floors in the addition room. I don't have them in my house either. We had to install them. I love the warm look of wood, don't you?
Your kitchen will be so cute when you're done! The open shelving is very daring because I am a messy person. TIMBER!! Whenever I remove a dish, I'd be afraid of the avalanche! But I'm sure you're not like that.
I'm in a new blog-home. I'm now at www.ceilryan.com It was a big move, but I hope to love it!
Great to see you again, hard working lady!

  24. Hi Roxie, You left me a comment about what to do about the paneling. I wanted to see it so I came on your blog.
I happen to love it! BUT... I would paint it all. White HIGH gloss enamel. Spray it, don't attempt to roll or brush it, it will not look the same.{Someone may tell you it will look fine but they are trying to save a buck!} It's worth having all your trim and cabinetry proffesionally sprayed, the results are superior. Having the paint and floors professionally done is important. They are too expensive to replace if they are not correctly. Just my opinion! I think it will be beautiful. I always do a paneling in my homes and have it professionally spray painted. The Floors... I would refinish the wood floors and stain them dark. Or if you want lighter I would refinish with a bleaching to make them very light. The contrast will be beautiful. Keep me posted! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your cottage!
I hope this answers your questions! {DO your upstairs first) Live with it a day or so!
    Have fun!

  25. Gallons of paint will bring this home to a whole new level! Your upstairs space will look great with a coat of white. You might consider leaving the open rafters, and just spraying everything white - if extra insulation is not needed. I love the look of the open ceilings! It adds an airy feel. Thanks for keeping us in the loop on your progress!
