Here is a FIRST picture of the work we have started on the cottage. I have decided to show you outside front pictures because "time is of the essence". This is the first week of November, and the weather will be changing very soon!
To the far left of the picture is a sample board of cedar shakes hubby made so we could temporarily put up and see roof colors. It helped!
The original shakes (because of too much damage) were removed. (right side of door). A new treated piece of wood on the bottom replaced an original one that had damage. There is an extra piece of wood under the front door, but that is only temporary. The black paper that you see was under the original cedar shakes.
The roofer is suppose to start this week on the NEW ROOF and the NEW CEDAR SHAKES should be finished to the right of the front door.....then on to the left side.
Of course, this is JUST THE BEGINNING to the outside! The slab of concrete under the left picture window will be removed. The glass screen door will be removed and the original wood castle-like door will be fixed and re-stained.
We may go for the natural cedar look with an oil coating. We first were going to stain a color but now we are re-thinking that. We also are doing a gray tone dimensional roof.
These pictures look pretty rough and we have a long way to go!
Most of the tyvek homewrap is in place on this area. We are hoping for some good weather in the weeks to come. This way, we can get much work done on the outside of the house. This DOESN'T include ANY yardwork, landscaping etc.! That won't happen until next Spring!
So it's OFFICIAL! The first week of November starts the RENOVATION project. I am going to try to post at least 1-2 times monthly on the cottage...maybe more! I am calling it....AROUND THE COTTAGE.
I am not a professional renovator, designer or decorator but I do LOVE homes! My great-grandfather was an Architech and Builder of cottages in Tenn. I guess it's in my blood!
I love knowing that over these next several months, my blogging sisters and friends are with me on this adventure! Please keep us in your prayers because we know this ain't gonna be easy!!
Blessings~~~Roxie

Oh you will make it through....with the help of the Lord. He is the Master Architech and Carpenter and Builder of Cottages in This World and especially your little cottage. Fear Not!! He'll lead you and guide you every step and give you great ideas. It will be fun seeing the renovations as they occure. Have you moved into this house yet or are you still in your other house?
ReplyDeleteYears ago, when we moved to Wisconsin, we built a pole shed, and lived there while we were building inside.....it was quite the challenge, plus raising cows, rabbits, chicken and ducks, dogs and cats. Oh and a big garden.....yes, those were the days, but we were younger then, like 30 years younger...Ha, could not do that now. Enjoy your adventure and take one day at a time!!!
Your cottage is so cute! And you're right. Renovating houses takes time. And money. My hubby and me have been renovating since we got married, twenty years ago. And we still haven't finnished. It gets somewhat addictive. Now we're into our fourth project! Hopefully the last one :). Good luck with your beautiful place! I know the Lord will see you through.
ReplyDeleteMorning Roxie, such a sweet little cottage, you will do fine. Lots of hard work but will pay off for sure.....Prayers and Hugs, Francine.
ReplyDeleteCannot wait to follow along on this adventure....how lucky that sweet cottage is to have you!
ReplyDeleteWe began a similar journey in 2006, and have not regretted one minute of it...even though it is not for the meek :)

It sure looks like a lot of work. But the cottage is so cute, it deserved to be renovated!

ReplyDeleteRoxie, you are doing an amazing job. It's going to be such an adorable home.
ReplyDeleteGod speed, I'm with you all the way!

Your cottage is so awesome Roxie! I love it!! I know it's hard work but you are going to love it even more because you put your own sweat and tears into it. I've been through many renos with my sweet hubby and have fond and not so fond memories LOL. What a blessing to have found a picture perfect cottage like this. We had a dimensional roof put on our last family home and loved it. It definitely has the cottage character you'll love for your new home. I'm so excited to see your progress.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the house tour on your prev post. A lovely home.
Many blessings to you and yours, Edie Marie
It's going to be pretty!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting Roxie! It will be so rewarding to really have a hands on experience with your new cottage. I am looking forward to all of your updates as you go along your new journey. Thank you for including us in this special project. xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, fun project! And a huge one.
ReplyDeletegood luck
Roxie, you got the cottage of your dreams - how wonderful? It is such a charming cottage, and I'm sure you'll have so much fun fixing it up. All the work that goes into it will make this house feel like a home for you. I'm so happy for you. I have already started to decorate for Christmas - a little bit here and there. I can't help myself, as this is my favorite holiday of all.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend, dear.
Love,
~Sheri
