THE MYSTERY TREE~~~~aka~~~~nicknamed "THE BROCCOLI TREE"
My neighbor was having a tree cut down (approx 100 yrs old) the other day. He had no choice~~it was dying and a large part had fallen. The NURSERYMAN/TREEMAN noticed my tree (as so many do, when they drive up my gravel lane). He walked over to admire and get a closer look! What a BEAUTIFUL MULBERRY TREE!! (he said). I've never seen one quite like this!! So there you have it! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, it's a MULBERRY TREE! It is approx. 50-75 years old!
Standing underneath it~~~it canopies up and out. Sorry, I can't get the FULL effect with the camera. It's like standing underneath a LARGE GREEN UMBRELLA! This was a NICE DAY! THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HATH MADE, LETS REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT! From one sweetie to another~~~Roxie
It really does look like broccoli! Even the stem, err I mean trunk!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful tree!
ReplyDeleteWe have a tree in our front yard that we call the cactus tree, because of the way the branches have grown...but it really is a ash tree. Your "broccoli" mulberry tree is a very pretty tree.
ReplyDeleteHello Roxie, she is a beauty, love the Mulberry tree. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteHi Roxie, your tree is beautiful. When I saw the photo and started to read I was afraid you were going to say that, that was the tree that had to be cut down. I'm so glad that it wasn't.
ReplyDeleteWe live in a dessert area. We have a lot of trees in town, but they have all been planted here. We have no natural trees. President Roosevelt started the building of Grand Coulee Dam . . . that dam is what brought irrigation into your dessert and turn us into a farming community. Irrigation brought people and our town was started. Trees are treasures here. On the other side of the mountains where it rains a lot there are forests, but not on our side.
Anyway . . . that is a goreous tree.
Do you know this poem?
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Joyce Kilmer
I love this poem.
Have a lovely week, Connie :)
I have never heard that poem, but I think it is beautiful! Thank you for sending it, I enjoyed it very much! I believe it fits this tree perfectly because so many people are drawn to it when they first see it! This tree is special to me because my Dad LOVED it so....he has been gone 21 years and admired that tree so much and always talked about it. I now live on the land my Father and Mother owned. Roxie
DeleteGorgeous tree! Don't let anyone near it with a chain saw! :)
ReplyDeleteWe harvested mulberry's from a friends tree this spring and made some wine. I haven't tried it yet, we are letting it age until Christmas! Very messy little fruits on those trees! My hand were purple for a week ☺
ReplyDeleteI must say, that is a lovely tree!! And you changed your profile picture! New hair cut?? It looks really great!! Always love to here from you, thanks for your support friend:)
ReplyDeleteXO Tami
Roxie,
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about this beautiful tree. I've heard of trees dying in many different parts of the country, due to the drought.
I wonder if we should all plant seedlings in the spring.
Pat
Love that tree Roxi, it does really look like a broccoli lol! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the mulberry and beautiful poem as well!
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking for mulberrys now because we live near the mulberry river. Surely there are mulberrys by a mulberry river? lol
What a beautiful tree! It's funny how gorgeous trees are everywhere, but we probably pass right by tons of them and don't even notice every day. This post inspired me to start paying more attention! :)
